It is in the First Folio that we find thirty six of the Bard's plays neatly organized. where the largest collection of Shakespeare documents exist today, including numerous copies of the First Folio as well as many copies of Quarto Editions of individual plays. The theater owned the scripts by purchasing them from the authors them selves, we presume that Shakespeare's compatriots drew on these scripts to compile what has come down to us as the First Folio, numerous copies of which still exist today, most of them at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. And what a delight to find the Bards compatriots careful work to reproduce the writings "from the true and original copies" of the scripts from the playhouse! The two men who saw to the printing of Shakespeare's works 14 years after his death, actually were members of the company of actors with him, jointly owning shares of the theater they played in. I have studied Shakespeare for years and am quite able to read the Elizabethan/Jacobean English inside. Inside are carefully reproduced pages from a book first printed in 1623. It did come with two minor check at the top and bottom of the spine, but this in no way detracts from the tome itself.
It is a very large book by any standard, certainly the largest one in my collection, and the finest book I own. What a find this was, the book cost $43, shipping was $3! Yes for $46 I bought a copy or the Norton Facsimile of Shakespeare's First Folio. I found it on E-Bay being sold by a Goodwill store some where in Indiana. I actually purchased a copy of the Norton Facsimile that was published in 1968, the first edition of that book.
